XELA Robotics offers uSkin, a 3-axis tactile sensor providing a human like sense of touch.
Due to the size and robustness of the sensor, uSkin can be implemented to benefit many applications in different industries.
Yes, we currently provide the following software free of charge, please click here to review.
The upcoming uSkin AI Software and the uSkin App will bring additional features such as slip detection, grasp success prediction, tactile object recognition, and many more to benefit the user.
Our complete software solution will be available by the end of 2023 and operable with the uSkin App to improve the overall experience and ease of use.
In particular, the following functions will be included in the software supplied with the sensor:
Grasping Features
Tactile Object Recognition
Calibration Options
XELA Robotics currently offers two options for calibration.
Both calibration options will provide the user with more control over the grasped object and enable uSkin to measure forces in Newton, which will improve the reproducibility of the collected tactile data and enable the “set grasping force” feature.

uSkin is a high-density, three dimensional, tactile sensor which consists of three main parts:
uSkin makes it possible to grasp objects with a human-like sense of touch, providing you with a precise, sensitive and overall more reliable grasping solution.
Every sensor module includes multiple pressure points (taxel), and every pressure point can measure 3-axis force, not only pressure.
The uSkin 4x4 is one of our most popular models and includes 16 individual sensors. These pressure points mimic a joystick, measuring X, Y, and Z force:
Providing you with a more detailed and accurate data collection.
We believe there is a missing piece in the design of current robots. Most companies focus on visual data and smart AI, which are very important for locating an object. However, visual data is insufficient to grasp, hold, and manipulate an object. Tactile data is required to solve this problem.
Only the sense of touch can tell you if you are: grasping the object with the right amount of force, if the object is slipping out of your hand, and so forth.
The company was founded in August 2018 as a spin-out from Waseda University. With several patents pending, more than 50 customers from 4 continents, and 73 years of combined experience in both tactile sensing hardware and tactile AI, XELA Robotics is at the forefront of tactile sensing technology.
We are a hardware and software company specialised in tactile sensing technology, established to provide the human sense of touch to robots. In addition to providing our tactile sensors, XELA Robotics also specialises in integrating them into various robot hands and grippers.
High-density 3-axis tactile sensor in a thin, soft, durable package, with minimal wiring. uSkin can be easily integrated into both new and existing robots.
This provides robots with a human-like sense of touch, which gives them the ability to grasp and manipulate objects with precision.
